92-Year-Old Hikes Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim
The oldest individual to have completed a rim-to-rim hike in the Grand Canyon is thought to be 92 years old.
Spanish-born Alfredo Aliaga hiked twenty-four miles and over twenty-one hours with the help of his daughter, Anabel Aliaga-Buchenau, who lives in North Carolina, his son-in-law, Jurgen Buchenau, and two willing witnesses.
As his trip came to an end, Aliaga, who had hiked the Grand Canyon multiple times before, was met by a group of up to 100 fans.
“It was amazing,” Aliaga exclaimed to FOX TV Stations. “Everyone is saying, ‘Alright, Alfredo!'” You succeeded! It was very wonderful.”
As of right now, Aliaga is thought to be the oldest person to walk across the Grand Canyon rim to rim. The record is now held by John Jepkema, who accomplished his own journey in March at the age of 91 years and 152 days.
Regardless of whether he receives the Guinness World Records title or not, Aliaga stated that he intends to trek the Grand Canyon once more in the upcoming year.
“You cannot say, ‘I am too old to do things,'” he said. “I am healthy and happy.”
