PESHAWAR: Chief of Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized that according to the constitution and the law of the land, the armed forces are not authorized to engage in political matters. He stated, “The constitution and the law clearly state that the armed forces do not have a role in politics, yet the issue persists because the army involves itself in political affairs.”

These remarks were made during his address at a public rally held, here on Thursday night.

Fazl remarked that recently, the Pakistan Army’s spokesperson conducted a three-hour press conference, but he personally found it difficult to comprehend the content. “Regardless of who spoke, their intention seemed to be addressing my statements,” commented Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

He emphasized his stance, stating, “I have a logical position, and I stand by it. Why would I need to rally a million people today?”

He pointed out that it’s commonly understood that the military should not intervene in elections.

The Maulana asserted, “I am acquainted with both the army chief and the ISI chief. If the intention is to intimidate me by donning a uniform, then that is a miscalculation on your part.” He cautioned, “You cannot even approach me. Correct your actions and adhere to your boundaries.”

He insisted that the military must withdraw from the tribal regions, as the tribes have suffered under the guise of peacekeeping efforts. “If you retreat to your original positions, I will hold great respect for you,” Fazl expressed.
