Pakistan’s govt plans affordable rates for EV charging stations
Pakistan is making significant efforts to promote electric vehicles (EVs) by reducing electricity costs at charging stations. Power Minister Awais Leghari emphasized the need to lower prices drastically to boost demand for EVs, especially in a country striving to reduce its carbon footprint.
The government plans to introduce a pricing structure to benefit all charging and battery-swapping stations. This initiative targets small cars, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers, which are widely used in Pakistan.
A notable development in this regard occurred recently when Hubco, a leading power producer, partnered with Pakistan State Oil to establish a nationwide EV charging network. This collaboration aims to lay the groundwork for Pakistan’s EV infrastructure.
Chinese car manufacturers like BYD have already entered the Pakistani market and are offering various EV models.
Minister Leghari also highlighted that the government aims to move away from solely being an electricity buyer. This shift is part of a broader effort to manage electricity demand and reduce tariffs, significantly impacting consumption.
By lowering costs and expanding infrastructure, Pakistan is positioning itself to embrace cleaner transportation and tackle environmental challenges effectively.
