KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Standing Committee on Rice Exports Convener Rafique Suleman congratulated Mian Shahbaz Sharif on becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan, a statement said.
In the current situation, the focus should be on improving the economic situation, improving the GDP growth rate, and further developing the agricultural sector, he said.
Suleman, who is also Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap) former chairman, said that the election of Shahbaz Sharif as the Prime Minister is encouraging for the business community.
He hoped that Sharif would meet the expectations of the people, achieve the goals of national development, while urging that the government programmes on agriculture should not only be continued but also the duties and taxes on agricultural machinery imposed by the previous government should also be abolished.
Suleman said that special attention and priority should be given to increase the rice exports so that the country can earn more in foreign exchange, while requesting the newly formed government to increase the area for rice cultivation.
He said that the new Prime Minister would have to formulate a strategy to remove all the obstacles in the way of economic growth.
