KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) felicitated Shahbaz Sharif on becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan, a statement said on Monday.

Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver wished him luck, saying that the Union expected good governance, no tolerance against corruption and good administration from him.

He said that Shahbaz Sharif is known for his good administration, adding that the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector expects top priority for ease of doing business and cost of production.

While appreciating ex-prime minister Imran Khan for his concerns for the SMEs and making the SME policy and various finance schemes for the underprivileged sector, he lamented that Imran Khan could not deliver much due to his weak team.

The sector had high hopes in him and expected far better results, he said, adding that the country could have progressed much better if Imran Khan had followed the road map given by the majority sector.

“We are indeed grateful to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) under Ministry of Industries and Production (MoI&P) who worked dedicatedly for the sector but are terribly disappointed with the other ministries who kept matters pending and the sector suffered due to their lethargy,” Thaver said.

The Unisame Council said that the people must stop ‘hero worshiping’ and evaluate every Prime Minister and leaders on merit and performance.

The Council urged for a strong broad based accountability and insurance that the coming government adheres to it strictly.

The Unisame Council urged Imran Khan to indulge in constructive criticism and play a healthy role as leader of the opposition in the parliament, prevent unfavourable policies and insist on austerity.
