The unexpected recovery of a Dogecoin dog that inspired a popular meme and became the face of a cryptocurrency has caused the internet to sigh with relief.
Kabosu, a sweet Japanese shiba inu who is 17 years old, became ill on Christmas Eve. Atsuko Sato, the dog’s owner, said on Instagram that the dog had stopped drinking and eating and that her health was “extremely serious.” The post received hundreds of likes.
She also disclosed that the dog suffers from acute cholangiohepatitis, an inflammatory disorder of the liver and bile ducts, and chronic lymphoma leukaemia, a type of malignancy.
However, according to Ms. Sato’s most recent post, which was made on Friday, Kabosu is able to eat her meals, drink plenty of water, and even take a quick stroll in the park.
“I’m amazed how quickly she bounced back,” Ms Sato said, addressing her 422,000 followers and thanking them for their support.
“The Miracle of Kabosu couldn’t have happened without your warm wishes and prayers,” she wrote.
Kabosu’s fans and the cryptocurrency community certainly rallied behind her in the last few days on TikTok, Twitter and Instagram.

Kabosu originally gained attention when a 2013 meme about her went viral. Doge memes, a long-ago unintentional misreading of the word “dog,” suddenly gained popularity as the mania spread online.
Later that year, Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency with Kabosu as its face, was introduced by two programmers.
Despite being a joke, Dogecoin’s value increased by almost 4,000% last year when Elon Musk labelled it “the people’s cryptocurrency.”

Since then, it has decreased as all cryptocurrencies have dropped.
But Tesla, the electric vehicle maker owned by Mr. Musk, still only takes it for the moment.
