Unisame asks PCSIR to explore indigenous resources

KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has urged Federal Commerce Minister Syed Naveed Qamar to set up a cell in the ministry to promote barter trade with other countries, a statement said on Friday.
Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver said that this will enable Pakistan to fill the gap caused because of the negligible imports.
Pakistan can export rice, maize, foodstuffs, denim, vegetables, fruits and a few other items to Iran, Turkey, Central Asia and other countries in exchange for oil and petroleum products under barter trade, he added.
For Thaver, this has to be done fast, as these are crucial times and the ministry will need to immediately take the initiative.
The Unisame Council members have stressed the need for immediate steps, as the business community is badly affected due to the unavailability of the packing and raw materials and this is leading to closure of industries.
In many cases, where they have the raw materials, the packing material is found scarce. It is indeed a very difficult situation, it noted.
It is assumed that friendly countries will accommodate Pakistan and lend a helping hand in meeting immediate requirements in these crucial times.
The Unisame requested the ministries to stand up to the tough times and work round-the-clock to meet this grave situation.
