School to remain closed for 8 days due to elections

As the general elections loom on February 8, 2024, there are indications that schools and educational institutions across Pakistan may experience an extended closure of more than a week.

Though the formal announcement is awaited in the first week of February, preliminary reports circulating online suggest that eight holidays will be observed in schools and colleges nationwide in light of the upcoming polls.

If these reports hold, educational institutions are expected to remain closed from February 4 to February 11, with normal activities resuming on February 12.

The potential closure stems from the deployment of school teachers as polling staff during the elections, a move that could disrupt educational activities for a couple of days.

The final decision on the widespread closure is anticipated to be announced a few days before the general elections, with authorities contemplating an extension of the holidays due to security concerns.

The government is strategizing to mobilize officials from various departments, and collaboration between paramilitary forces and law enforcement is being emphasized to ensure a secure and peaceful election process.
