Following the rapid increase in Coronavirus cases across the country, the Punjab government has on Wednesday imposed smart lockdown in various parts of the city.

According to a notification issued by the provincial government, various localities of Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Bhakkar and other cities have been placed under smart lockdown. The Punjab government imposed smart lockdown in COVID-19 hotspots to curb the spread of second wave of novel Coronavirus.

In Lahore, the smart lockdown has been imposed in Valencia Town, Paragon city, Johar Town, DHA and other areas.

Multan’s Jalilabad, Gulgasht Colony, Garden Town, Khan Village Housing Society and other areas have been placed under the mart lockdwon.

In Bahawalpur, Hashmi Garden, Model Town, Satellite Town, New Sadiq Colony  and other areas have been sealed.

Schools, mosques, shopping centers, parks etc will remain closed in the areas.

However, essential commodities and supplies like pharmacy, ration, drinking water and medical emergency, will be exempted from the lockdown restrictions.

Earlier in a day, the virus had claimed 17 more lives and infected 597 people during the past 24 hours in Punjab.

On the other hand, the Federal Ministry of Education has forwarded proposals for educational institutions to the provinces amid the rise in Coronavirus cases.

The sources said that in the proposal issued by the federal government, the educational institutions should be closed from November 24 to January 31, while the primary schools should be closed from November 24.

According to the report of the health department, 138,164 tests were conducted in educational institutions in two months out of which 1257 cases have been reported positive while the result of 127,269 cases has been negative.

203 cases were reported in Karachi Central District educational institutions, 118 in Korangi, 233 in East District, 28 in West District and 25 in Malir District.

Besides, 77 corona cases were reported in Hyderabad, 31 in Mirpur, 45 in Sukkur, 61 in Jamshoro, four in Tando Allahyar and 61 in Thatta.

44 cases were reported in Matiari, 11 in Tando Muhammad Khan, 31 in Mirpur Khas and 20 in Tharparkar.
