The Pakistan Medical Commission has announced to increase the seats of medical and dental colleges across the country.

According to the details, PMC had received requests from provinces for an emergency increase of medical and dental college seats to accommodate various quotas after that the development occurred.

The medical body said,

“PMC had reviewed these requests and authorised the enhancement of seats in certain colleges.”

The statement further said, “The distribution of these seats to accommodate various quotas is the purview of provincial governments, and they may proceed under their mandate and authority.”

PM also gave the statistics according to which 495 seats have been added to the existing numbers. Two hundred and forty seats have been increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 240 in Punjab, and 15 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Note that earlier, the protests were held outside the Pakistan Medical Commission against the reduction of seats in the former FATA and Balochistan medical colleges.

The protestors said that injustice was being done to the students of Balochistan and FATA.

Senator Usman Kakar said that 265 seats should be restored, we want all medical colleges to have the same scale, Dr. Faiz Achakzai, President of Young Doctors Association Islamabad also participated in the demonstration and expressed support for the demands.

Dr Faiz Achakzai said that the decision of the MC was based on malice, adding that reducing the number of medical seats would be a blow to the medical sector.
