Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has become the first Pakistani director to direct the Ms. Marvel series for Disney+.
‘Saving face’ director has teamed up with Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, and Meera Menon to direct the series.
Ms. Marvel features the first Pakistani and Muslim superhero, Kamala Khan, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, has said that the first onscreen Muslim superhero will be introduced in future Marvel films too.
Marvel introduced Kamala Khan’s game earlier. Kamala Khan was created by Marvel editor and director Sana Amanat, who is a Muslim-American herself. The character was co-created by Amanat in 2014.
“I think it’s absolutely insane that Kamala Khan is in one of the biggest Marvel games that we’ve done. The fact that she’s the entry point character in this game makes so much sense. People from all backgrounds can relate to her,” Amanat has earlier said.
Earlier in August, Sharmeen has made another achievement as her documentary ‘Freedom Fighters’ has bagged a nomination at the 41st Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards for ‘Best Feature Story in a News Magazine’.
Freedom Fighters has earlier won Best Short Documentary at Tallgrass Film Festival. Winners of the notifications will be announced on September 21 in an online ceremony.
