LONDON, UK : Cristiano Ronaldo scored on his Manchester United team’s return to action on Saturday after missing a game due to the death of his newborn son.

The Portugal international raised his left arm and pointed to the sky in a modest celebration of his 100th Premier League goal, which came in the first half at Arsenal after United’s No. 7 was applauded by the home fans as the clock struck the seventh minute in a display of unity.

On Monday, Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez revealed that one of their newborn twins had died. On Tuesday, he was left out of the squad that lost 4-0 at Liverpool.

His goal cut Arsenal’s lead to 2-1 in the 34th minute at the Emirates Stadium, but the north London team went on to win 3-1. Ronaldo has 16 Premier League goals this season since rejoining United from Real Madrid, on top of the 84 goals he scored during his previous tenure at the club from 2003 to 2009.
