Former US President Barack Obama regarded Arooj Aftab’s ghazal as one of his favourite songs. He harmonises classical music with folk and jazz in his tunes.
Urooj Aftab was nominated for the highest Grammy Award in music, the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance, as well as the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. This was the first time a Pakistani singer was nominated in two categories, one for Best Global Music Performance and the other for Best New Artist.

The singer was born in Saudi Arabia but moved to Pakistan with her parents and began her singing career in Lahore after studying at Berkeley College of Music in the United States.
Since childhood, Urooj has been enthralled by classical music, ghazals, and qawwali. He is a musician and producer in addition to singing and has recorded three solo albums so far.
