The closing arguments in the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have begun. Exes’ lawyers began presenting final arguments in the current trial in Fairfax, Virginia, on Friday, going over much of the evidence presented by each side since the trial began on April 11.

“You either believe all of it, or none of it,” Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, said of Heard’s allegations of abuse against Depp, 58. “Either she’s a victim of truly horrific abuse or she’s a woman who’s willing to say absolutely anything.” On the other hand, during his closing arguments, the Aquaman actress’s attorney, Ben Rottenborn, stated, as per PEOPLE, “If he abused her one time, Amber wins,” and accused Depp of having “almost all” of his witnesses on his payroll.

“Let’s see the monster. Let’s see the monster in the flesh,,” shall we? “Before showing the video of Depp slamming cabinets in the former couple’s kitchen, Rottenborn said. Meanwhile, Depp is suing Heard for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in December 2018 about coming forward with abuse allegations, but she didn’t mention him by name. Heard, for his part, has filed a defamation lawsuit against him and is seeking USD 100 million in damages. She claims Depp started an internet campaign to dismiss her allegations as “fake” and “hoax,” causing her reputation and career to suffer as a result.

Depp and Heard married in 2015, but split in May 2016 after Heard filed for divorce and a domestic violence restraining order against him. In August 2016, the former couple negotiated an out-of-court settlement after Johnny Depp denied her charges of abuse. In November 2020, Depp’s libel suit against the British newspaper The Sun for calling him a “wife-beater” was dismissed. The claims made by the outlet were determined to be “basically true” by the court, and Heard testified in support of them. In March 2021, Depp’s appeal to overturn the decision was denied.
