Balenciaga most recent sneakers embrace the term “streetwear.”

The industry hype beasts’ favourite Kim Kardashian-approved fashion business has created a new “completely wrecked” version of its iconic “Paris” high-top sneaker, replete with shredding, smudge, and a graffiti logo.

Between the severely worn-out look and the $1,850 price tag, the limited-edition model had some consumers raising their eyes.

One Twitter user responded, “Balenciaga is really charging people $1850 for the pair of torn up converse that my ma begged me to throw out when I was in high school,”

Torn cotton uppers, vulcanised souls, and a graffitied Balenciaga logo play off the permanent marker doodles frequently seen on rubber bottoms in the new shoes, which are currently available for pre-order on the Balenciaga website in white and black colorways.

The “full destroyed” version of the sneakers costs almost twice as much as the original model, which is a classic high-top that costs $625 and comes in red, white, and blue.

Balenciaga also released a backless mule version of the sneaker in red, white, and blue to round out the range. The mules, which cost $425, are the most affordable design from the Paris direction.

Another Twitter user claimed that the Balenciaga team, directed by Demna Gvasalia, was attempting to “troll everyone.”

Some users were also annoyed by the exorbitant cost of purposely torn apparel, with one user criticising the brand for its “poverty-chic” style choices.

“Balenciaga’s new “distressed” range of shoes starting at $625 is basically the rich cosplaying as poor,” another Twitter user commented.

However, some individuals pointed out that, regardless of how, Balenciaga’s design staff had produced a fresh style that got people talking.

One user noted, “Balenciaga used this as a marketing strategy to make people talk and create content to promote the product.”

Regardless of the meticulous preparation that went into the Paris collection, most admirers couldn’t help but joke that they could find a pair of shoes that looked similar to the pricy new line if they searched around in their closet.

One user even compared the sneakers to “the shoes you would wear when you had to help bring in the groceries and couldn’t find your shoes.”

“Balenciaga is selling their Paris distressed shoe for $625. But you can save yourself $600 if you take some Chuck Taylor high top knockoffs and wear them to an outdoor heavy metal festival,” another user joked. “Both shoes would look identical by the time the day is done.”
