Brian May sings about ‘Another World’ in his Spanish debut

Queen guitarist Brian May has returned to film his Spanish singing debut “Otro Lugar,” a translated version of his old song “Another World,” decades after studying the stars above the Canary Islands for his PhD in astronomy.

The 74-year-old musician travelled to Tenerife, La Palma, and El Hierro to film his new music video, which will be included in a remastered edition of his 1998 solo album, also titled “Another World.”

The song appears on the new album in two versions: English and Spanish, with a video for the Spanish version published on Friday.

“It’s a lovely place up there. You’re always above the clouds, aren’t you? “May told Reuters that he first visited Tenerife’s Teide Observatory in 1970 while researching for his PhD.

“It’s known as the sea of clouds… And it’s the closest I’ll ever get to heaven.” May collaborated with a buddy to translate the song, his first in Spanish. He characterised it as “romantic” and “about attempting to achieve a point where the world is better governed.”

“We shot both versions… and the Spanish version came out far better,” May explained. “It came out of me pretty readily.”

May, who rose to stardom with Queen, claimed he re-released his second solo album, “Another World,” to reach new listeners. Last year, he reissued his 1992 first solo album “Back to the Light.”
