Kelly Clarkson ‘almost cried’ on her first Mother’s Day after her divorce

Kelly Clarkson has spoken up about how she spent her first Mother’s Day following her March divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. The Kelly Clarkson Show host, 40, said in an interview with Extra at Monday’s American Song Contest finals that she received a gift from her nanny that nearly brought her to tears.

The Voice coach has a 7-year-old daughter, River, and a 6-year-old boy, Remington, with her ex-husband. She said, “I’m a single mom, right? So, I’m either at work or with kids.”

Clarkson hadn’t planned on doing anything on Sunday’s holiday until her babysitter gave her the gift of time. “So my nanny – I literally almost cried – like, she walked into the kitchen and was like, ‘Hey, for Mother’s Day, I’m going to give you the gift of time and you can just do whatever you want,'”

During the talk, the Texas native, who was joined by Snoop Dogg, her American Song Contest cohost, remarked on how nice it was to have a true break.

On Monday, the 50-year-old rapper added, “No one understands how important time is,” to which Clarkson responded, “I had the best day, and it was amazing.”

However, in June 2020, the Miss Independent singer filed for divorce after nearly seven years of marriage. After more than a year of ups and downs during the exes’ court struggle, Clarkson was declared legally single in September 2021.

The Breakaway singer and her music manager separated in March, according to Us Weekly. At the time, Clarkson was given primary custody of their two children, with Blackstock receiving them once a month.
