The popular computer game ‘Gran Turismo’ will be converted into a feature film shortly, with Neill Blomkamp, a South African-Canadian director, set to helm.

According to ‘Deadline,’ Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, which previously collaborated on a video game-to-film adaptation of ‘Uncharted,’ are scheduled to collaborate once more on the ‘Gran Turismo’ adaptation.

However, the project is still in its early stages of production, with the narrative being kept a secret. The game, which was created by Polyphony and Kazunori Yamauchi in 1997 and hailed as one of the most authentic driving simulators in its class for its focus on precise graphics, driving physics, and attention to detail of the cars that players would build and race, has a long and illustrious history.

According to ‘Deadline,’ the series has sold over 85 million copies, with the most current instalment, ‘Gran Turismo 7’, releasing in March for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

According to ‘Deadline,’ ‘Gran Turismo’ is one of numerous game-centric initiatives in the works for corporate siblings Sony and PlayStation Production.

Takashi Doscher was announced in April as the writer for the adaptation of the action-adventure game ‘Ghost of Tsushima,’ which has sold over 8 million copies since its release in July 2020.

Sony Pictures TV and PlayStation are also developing ‘The Last of Us’ for HBO, with Craig Mazin attached to write and executive produce; and Peacock’s ‘Twisted Metal,’ starring Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church, and Neve Campbell, and based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
