The defamation trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has received a lot of attention on social media. As a result, when Snapchat introduced the crying face filter a few days ago, shortly after the Aquaman actress’ outburst in court, netizens claimed that Heard was the inspiration for this filter.

However, the instant messaging app has recently dispelled claims about this specific weeping filter and clarified that the allegation is false.

According to TMZ, a representative for the multimedia messaging platform stated that there were “no ties between Amber and the crying face filter” that they had just released to the public.

Furthermore, recognising the sensitivity of the situation, the messaging app stated that they would “never play coy with a Domestic Violence case.”

Snapchat also informed the outlet that the feature had been in development for six months prior to the trial’s start date.

For the uninitiated, this filter, which has received 1.3 billion impressions on social media, is a reality lens that superimposes over people’s faces and makes them appear to be crying in an amusing manner.
