In a sit-down interview with Today, Amber Heard discussed the defamation case for the first time, revealing that she lost the case to ex-husband Johnny Depp. After Depp was given USD 15 million in damages after a six-week trial, the Aquaman actress commented about how the matter was handled and what contributed to Johnny’s trial victory.

Amber discussed the Virginia trial, in which a jury found her liable for defamation in regard to a 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post in which she referred to herself as a domestic abuse survivor, as well as the results of the UK trial. Heard discussed Depp’s libel case against a UK newspaper that dubbed him a “wife-beater.” “There was another trial that dealt with the same substantive issues and had even more evidence. In fact, my evidence was largely kept out.”

Heard commented on Depp’s victory in the current case, saying, “His lawyers did a better job at distracting the jury from the real issues.” The actress also addressed Depp’s lawyers’ contention that her testimony was the “performance of a lifetime” in their final argument. In response to the same, Heard stated,  “Says the lawyer for the man who convinced the world he had scissors for fingers? I’m the performer? I had listened to weeks of testimony insinuating or saying quite directly that I’m a terrible actress, so I’m a bit confused how I could be both.”
