Kangana Ranaut will appear before Mumbai court in Javed Akhtar’s defamation case

• Her lawyer showed up for the actress and said that she would be in court on July 4.
• The new date for hearing the case is July 4 at 4 p.m.

Kangana Ranaut recently asked the Andheri Magistrate Court to let her skip the hearing where Javed Akhtar’s case against her would be heard.

After this, Akhtar’s lawyer, Jay Bharadwaj, asked that the Bollywood actress be given an arrest warrant that can’t be bailed out because she hasn’t shown up in court more than once. But her lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee, showed up for the actress and said that she would be in court on July 4. The new date for hearing the case is July 4 at 4 p.m.

Reports say that Kangana has also asked that no one from the media be there when the Magistrate takes her statement.

This case goes all the way back to 2020, when Javed Akhtar sued Kangana for defamation. After Sushant Singh Rajput died too soon in June 2020, Kangana Ranaut is said to have said in an interview that the famous lyricist was part of Bollywood’s “suicide gang” which pushed “outsiders” like her to kill themselves. Soon after, Javed Akhtar went to the Magistrate court to sue Kangana for defamation.

Kangana has also filed a new extortion charge against Akhtar, but the court won’t look at it until Ranaut shows up and gives her side of the story.
