Thor: Love and Thunder will mark Christian Bale’s MCU debut. The Hollywood actor is known for his humanitarian work.

Christian Bale was pushed and punched in 2011 while trying to meet his “personal hero,” Chen Guangcheng (a Chinese activist). The media person recorded the actor’s visit to the site. In one video, Christian tells guards, “I’m here to see Chen Guangcheng.” The actor asked repeatedly, “Why can’t I visit this free man?”

Later, the video showed Christian Bale said, “What I wanted to do was to meet the man, shake his hand and say what an inspiration he is.” While filming The Flowers of War in China, the actor learned about Chen’s condition. Bale planned to promote the film and the activist.

“This doesn’t come naturally to me, this isn’t what I actually enjoy — it’s not about me,” he stated. “But this was just a situation that said I can’t look the other way. I’m not brave doing this. The local people who are standing up to the authorities, who are visiting Chen and his family and getting beaten or detained, I want to support them.”

Chen Guangcheng was released from prison in September 2010. The activist was sentenced to 4 years in August 2006 for “damaging property and organizing a mob to disturb traffic.” After his sentence was released, he was housed with his wife, mother, and daughter.
