Is Captain America virgin? Mystery solved by ‘She-Hulk’
“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” has already resolved one of the biggest mysteries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after just one episode.
Has Chris Evans’ role of the first Avenger, who originally appeared in Marvel Studios’ early films, ever had a first time? Has the Captain succeeded in making it happen? Can a World War II super-soldier who spent decades frozen suddenly find the time to swipe left or right?
These are the kinds of queries that Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) is focused on asking her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), the Incredible Hulk, who fought alongside Captain America as a member of the Avengers, because he is the only one who knows the solution to such top-secret American intelligence.
Moments before the start of her superhero/origin story, Walters uses her legal expertise to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Captain America was defending himself and saving the world for a special person who never showed up during a car accident with her cousin that results in an unplanned Hulk blood transfusion.
The least attractive rumor in the history of the MCU is supported by available evidence. Steve Rogers was a frail, Brooklyn-raised youngster who was far from a Casanova before a super serum granted him superhero strength and height. By the time he became Captain America, he had already begun to love Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). They enjoyed a kiss before he had to save the world from Nazi Germany in World War II, which required him to crash a jet into a mountain. After saving the world, he subsequently turned into a super-popsicle. After being unfrozen years later, Captain America dealt with time travel, Thanos, Loki, Ultron, a civil war, and instant ageing. That leaves little time for romantic relationships.
Scarlett Johansson’s character, the Black Widow, and Captain America had kiss in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in order to escape the agents who are after them. Black Widow subsequently questions whether she was the first woman he had kissed since 1945. The Captain answers, “That awful, huh?”
By the time “She-Hulk” hits its opening post-credits scene following Episode 1, we have finally received an answer.
Walters mourns what she is convinced is a super lack of sexual activity from Captain America while shedding lawyer-enhanced crocodile tears and drowning her sorrows in a drink with Banner/Hulk.
At that point, Banner shares a little-known fact with her: Captain America lost his virginity in 1943 with a woman he met while travelling in USO.
As soon as Walters realizes she isn’t actually intoxicated as her cousin had assumed, she screams with delight and turns off the false faucets in her eyes.
Is this the MCU’s sexual revolution? Even while it isn’t quite that kind of party yet, this is a significant development for a world that is far more fantastic than sensual.
