Goodnight Mommy on Amazon Prime features stunning visuals

“Goodnight Mommy” on Amazon Prime showcases stunning visuals that perfectly capture the spirit of a horror movie.

According to reports, the psychological thriller Goodnight Mommy’s director Matt Sobel urged the production designer Mary Colston and the cinematographer Alexander Dynan to incorporate a sense of dread into the film’s images.

Naomi Watts plays a mother of two in the movie who returns home to her sons following plastic surgery. She doesn’t appear to be the same woman that abandoned them, though.

Colston wanted to show the family’s home as “a map of pain” to heighten the spooky images, but Dynan wanted to see it through the boys’ eyes.

Dylan explained, “We wanted to always be with them, so we used dolly tracking shots and Steadicam at their height so we could see them or what they were looking at.”

As the plot develops, the boys notice their mother acting in an unsettling way, which causes the graphics to change and the house to receive more screen time.

According to Variety, Colston turned the mother’s room into a haven for the boys by decorating it with black drapes and low lighting to give it a secluded feel. Meanwhile, she filled the boys’ room with darkness.

“The more you get into the room, the more the world makes you question, ‘What is going on with this woman?’” Colston defended her decision.
