Rakesh Roshan on failure of Bollywood films

Following in the footsteps of Prakash Jha, actor-turned-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has expressed his thoughts on recent Bollywood box office failures. In addition to criticising directors’ topic choices, Roshan bemoaned how songs had taken a second place in movies. While some experts feel that the cancel culture has had a significant impact on the film’s box office, Rakesh believes that if the picture is well-made, it will succeed.

In an interview, Roshan stated that people can no longer relate to the issues chosen by filmmakers. “People make films that they and their friends like seeing. They choose topics that appeal to a relatively small segment of the audience. “A large portion of the audience cannot relate to it,” he explained.

Rakesh Roshan went on to discuss how crucial songs are in a film’s success. He believes that songs are now “relegated to the background” or that only the beginning is played. “Aap puraane gaano se hero ko yaad rakhte hai,” the director stated (You remember actors because of old songs). When you hear old classics, you recall the heroes who appeared in such songs. Toh hero yaad nahi aate hai nowadays, since there are no songs (no one remembers the hero). As a result, becoming a superstar is really difficult right now.”

Roshan stated of the recent success of South films Pushpa and RRR, “they are still adhering to rooted storylines and presenting them in a more enhanced style, keeping commercial sensitivities in mind.” Films such as RRR and Baahubali have beaten-to-death tales. Baahubali is a lot like Karan Arjun. However, it was exhibited on a larger scale. People were drawn in because the songs themselves were larger-than-life. Or hamare Bollywood filmmakers ko pata nahin kya hai? They have strayed from their Indian heritage. They strive to make’modern film,’ but it only works with 1% of the population. It does not serve B and C centres.
