Drishyam 2 trailer: Tabu and Akshaye Khanna hunt Ajay Devgn 7 years later as case reopens
The 2015 movie Drishyam was a remake of the Mohanlal-starring Malayalam film of the same name. But it was released at a time when the Hindi-speaking region didn’t watch as many South Asian movies. That is not the case for Drishyam 2. Millions of people watched the Drishyam 2 versions in Malayalam and Telugu, which are now available on streaming services. Director Abhishek Pathak and actor Ajay Devgn discuss how they ensured the Hindi version stayed current.
At the Goa trailer-releasing ceremony, Ajay Devgn answered a question. He explained what’s new in Drishyam 2 and said, “There were a lot of characters added, and a lot of changes made. You won’t see Akshaye’s character in the (Malayalam) film or Gaitonde (Kamlesh Sawant). So, a lot of changes have been made but like Abhishek said, keeping the soul of the film intact. So, I think, when you see the film, it’s going to be very fresh for you.”
In fact, the script took several months to construct, according to director Abhishek Pathak, and it has a number of elements that were not included in the Malayalam and Telugu versions. “When we started writing the film, it was not as if we started shooting right away. It took us seven months to write the film. So, there are a lot of changes that make it different from the Malayalam and Telugu versions,” he added.
Drishyam is a follow-up to the popular thriller from 2015 by Nishikant Kamat. It also features Tabu, Ishita Dutta, Akshay Khanna, Rajat Kapoor, and Shriya Saran in addition to Ajay Devgn. On November 18, it is scheduled to open in theatres.
Ajay will play Vijay Salgaonkar again in the movie, who tricked people into thinking his family was on vacation to avoid being charged with murder. The movie’s trailer debuted on Monday in Panaji, the setting of the movie.
In February 2021, Drishyam 2 in Malayalam, starring Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, and Esther Anil, was released. It was a follow-up to their Jeethu Joseph-directed movie from 2013. A digital release was chosen for the movie because of the increased number of COVID cases.
Following the Malayalam film’s popularity, director Jeethu Joseph went on to create a Telugu adaptation, which featured Venkatesh, Meena, Nadhiya, Naresh, and Kruthika in pivotal parts. In November 2021, it was also made available digitally on Amazon Prime Video. D Suresh Babu, Antony Perumbavoor, and Rajkumar Sethupathi collaborated in its production.
