Daniel Radcliffe says he’s worried about reaction of Darke’s parents
Daniel Radcliffe admitted that he was worried about the reaction of Erin Darke’s parents to his role in the upcoming Weird Al biopic, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Radcliffe was asked if actress Darke was a Weird Al fan. To which he responded, “Actually, after [director] Eric [Appel] and Al [Yankovic], the people I’m most concerned about their reaction is probably my in-laws, Erin’s dad and brother, because they’re massive fans as well. Erin’s seen the movie but I’ll be interested in what Ian thinks. I really hope he likes it.”
The 2010 Funny or Die short by director Eric Appel served as the basis for the film. Weird Al Yankovic, the star of the 1980s parody era, will be portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe. The 35-year-old Evan Rachel Wood will play a psychotic Madonna alongside the Harry Potter alum. According to ScreenRant, the ensemble will also include Jack Black as Wolfman Jack, Conan O’Brien as Andy Warhol, James Preston Rogers as Hulk Hogan, Rain Wilson as Dr. Demento, and Quinta Brunson as Oprah Winfrey.
“Every character in this film starts as something you kind of recognise, then you watch it explode into something truly insane,” Radcliffe told, But that doesn’t mean more is more when it came to his performance. “The absurdity of the situation is where the comedy is coming from, and actually, the more grounded you can play a lot of it — not all of it, because a lot of it is insane — but the more grounded you can make it, the better.”
The full-length Roku original movie only loosely follows Yankovic’s career; for humorous effect, it fabricates events from the musician’s life, such as his contacts with the aforementioned celebrities.
