An advertisement for a Samsung phone with their logo on it was posted on Friday morning by the Kolkata-based retailer Great Eastern Retail. The advertisement featured a person using the phone while visiting Rajasthan. The caption read, “Famous Indian comedian Vir Das tried and tested out the Samsung GalaxyA53 #NoShakeCam phone on his recent trip to Jaisalmer and is mindblown with his experience! Get #Samsung #GalaxyA53 TODAY and get ready to #AmpYourAwesome.”

Many comments clarified that the model in the advertisement was Raghav Juyal, a dancer-turned-actor rather than Vir. A few hours after the tweet was sent, Vir responded to it personally. Having shared the retailer’s tweet, he wrote, “Thanks guys. I’m totally mind blown, especially because…that ain’t me (shrug emoji).”

The social media team of the company may have been puzzled because Raghav was wearing a hat, something Vir frequently wears in his stand-up routines, according to many admirers who responded to Vir. They have reduced you to the hat you wear during the shows, one person wrote. What a mistake! Others jokingly referred to Raghav as “discount Vir Das.” One comment stated, “They really got Flipkart Vir Das and thought they would get away with it.” Other social media users chastised the company for its inaccurate message. When you spend thousands to employ someone for an advertisement, at least give them a proper name, one person remarked,  “Bhai kisi bande ko laakhon rupaye main hire karte ho apne ad ke liye, toh atleast uska naam sahi se le lete.”
