Why many believe Harry Styles boycotted Adidas in amid Kanye West controversy
Harry Styles secretly boycotted the company fans of the singer believe that before Adidas formally severed connections with the rapper over his anti-Semitic outbursts.
The singer, who has largely performed with Adidas x Gucci Gazelle shoes throughout his Love On Tour, broke things up on Monday night by performing in Los Angeles wearing a pair of red Vans instead of his usual footwear.
One astute fan wrote before identifying Styles and his stylist, Harry Lambert, “Harry Styles wearing Adidas every show of the tour till they hesitate to drop Kanye and he promptly breaks out vans….. I see u.”
For the performance at the Kia Forum, the 28-year-old “Watermelon Sugar” singer wore his new boots with tan leather leggings and an ice cream cone T-shirt.
“We see your decision, and it means so a lot to me and all your other Jewish followers, and those who stand with us against antisemitism in all its forms,” one supporter said in response to the couple’s decision.
While other followers of the artist wrote on social media, “Doing it like Harry Styles. I’m wearing my @vans in place of my @adidas. After being silent for two weeks, Adidas needs to make a statement. #boycottadidas.”
After a slew of anti-Semitic and racist rants, Styles decided to cease promoting the company after Adidas said its relationship with the Yeezy fashion designer was “under review” as opposed to cancelling his contract.
However, after Styles and a host of other famous people criticized the athletic wear company recently, they eventually cut off their relationship with West, 45, on Tuesday.
Adidas issued a statement saying, “Adidas does not accept antisemitism and any other type of hate speech.” Ye has recently made remarks and taken acts that are undesirable, dangerous, and against the company’s principles of inclusiveness, respect, and fairness.
West’s net worth was drastically impacted by Adidas’ decision to cut ways with the rapper, with whom they had collaborated since 2013, dropping it from over $1.5 billion to $400 million.
Numerous companies and longtime collaborators have stopped working with the “Heartless” rapper in the previous month after he threatened to commit “death con 3” on Jews.
West criticized the “Jewish media” for silencing him after being removed from Twitter and Instagram due to the nasty statements.
The rapper, who started acting shockingly when he wore a “White Lives Matter” shirt during Paris Fashion Week, doesn’t believe he will be fired despite criticism for his commentary.
He said last week to TMZ, “I ain’t losing no money. “One of the most liberating days was the day I was removed off the Balenciaga site.”
“We here, sweetie, we ain’t going nowhere,” was added.
The rapper responded, “No. ” when asked if he regretted saying the things on Piers Morgan. Definitely not.
