Aishwarya Rai defended Abhishek Bachchan from ‘unfair’ questions

In 2010, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai did a joint interview to promote their movie Raavan. When Abhishek answered a “unfair” question about his wife and father’s accomplishments, Aishwarya cut him off.

In an interview from 2010, Abhishek Bachchan was asked if the fame of his father Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Aishwarya Rai bothered him and if he felt like they could “overshadow” him. Abhishek politely said “no” to the question, but his actress wife Aishwarya stood up for him and said the question was “unfair.” Aishwarya also said she “hated” the word “overshadow” with all her heart. Before and after they got married in 2007, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai worked together in many movies. In 2010, the couple did an interview together to promote their movie Raavan by Mani Ratnam. When Abhishek was answering a question about his wife and father’s accomplishments, Aishwarya cut him off to tell him the “truth” about him. She said that Abhishek was “very, very well known” and had made himself a place in Bollywood.

When asked if he was worried about being overshadowed by Aishwarya and Amitabh Bachchan’s fame, Abhishek said, “No, not at all.” In response to the question, Aishwarya said, “I hate the word “overshadow” with all my heart. I think it’s unfair that this question is always asked of Abhishek, because that’s not the point at all. Based on his body of work and the range of roles he has played, he is very well known and has made a name for himself.

Before she apologised to Abhishek for “interrupting” his answer, Aishwarya told him that she had been asked similar questions that had nothing to do with the truth. She said, “I’m interrupting because I’ve been asked for a long time, ‘You’ve been a model and Miss World. Do you only get roles where you play a beautiful woman?'” So, in the same way, this idea is bigger than the truth, and the fact is that we are all doing very good work… I’m sorry to cut you off (Abhishek), but… “It’s the truth, and the truth has to be said.”
