This Grey’s Anatomy reunion sizzles!

Sarah Drew and Justin Bruening, whose Grey’s characters April Kepner and Matthew Taylor were married and recently divorced, costar in Reindeer Games Homecoming, which Drew also created.

April and Matthew would blush if they saw the fire between Mac, a former Boston hospital resident who returned to her tiny town just before her dad died, and Chase, her high school lab partner and infatuation, now a Hollywood movie star.

Drew and Bruening thank history for their smooth connection.

Drew: “We’ve worked together for 10 years.” “We can easily go back into that mentality with him and his second-hand. No chemistry guessing. Exists.”

This connection shows in their easy banter as they explore Reindeer Games Homecoming, how it breaks Christmas movie clichés, and their past.

PEOPLE: Sarah, did you envision Justin in this movie?

SARAH DREW: I wrote it after working with a group I wanted to work with again. Three years later, a lot occurred. When Justin’s name came up in leadership meetings, I said “yes.” Glad he did it.

They all said no, Justin. Then I realized: Haha.

Drew: Nope. We’ve worked together so much that wasn’t my first thinking. I adore working with Justin. But also wish to collaborate. I was shocked when his name was mentioned “This is amazing. Yes.” Justin, I can’t stop.

BRUENING: I’m a Lay’s.

What inspired this movie?

My spouse attended to Dartmouth College, where they have a Winter Carnival every year. At Dartmouth, they cut a hole in a frozen pond and jump in. Human dog sled derby on snow with clowns pulling sleds. I felt it was such a joyful, community-bonding activity that it would be excellent for a Christmas movie set in a small town that gets into it.

My mum inspired Mac. She taught me biology and AP biology. She completed scientific research for a Ph.D. She’s very clever and loves kids and science. My dad played my dad. He provided the letter’s narration and is in all the photos. I also honored my parents.
