Catalina Sandino Moreno joins ‘Ballerina’ opposite Armas, Ana

Catalina Sandino Moreno has joined the cast of the upcoming John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, according to sources.

She will play an unspecified role. Despite the mystery surrounding her character, she is said to play an important role in the film alongside Ana de Armas (Blonde).

She joins the previously announced cast members, which include Anjelica Huston, who previously appeared in the franchise’s third instalment alongside franchise regulars Ian McShane and Lance Reddick.

The upcoming film is directed by Len Wiseman, with screenwriter Shay Hatten and producers Basil Iwanyk, Chad Stahelski, and Erica Lee attached.

Ballerina, in a series known for its high-octane, adrenaline-fueled action, could be another memorable entry into the John Wick universe while also offering its own unique spin.

“One of the challenges of casting Ballerina is making sure that the new roles are played by actors with as much power, emotional presence, and physical skill as Ana has. After working with Catalina on John Woo‘s Silent Night, it was clear that she belonged at the top of our list, and it’s a thrill to be reuniting with her,”  Producer Erica Lee said of Moreno’s casting, according to sources.

Moreno had previously been nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in the critically acclaimed 2004 film Maria Full of Grace.

She has also recently appeared in popular shows such as From and The Affair. Along with the eventual release of Ballerina, Moreno will also appear in the previously mentioned Silent Night, directed by John Woo, alongside Joel Kinnaman and Kid Cudi.

More information about her role in Ballerina will most likely be revealed as the film progresses through production.

While fans await the spinoff’s release, a fourth film instalment, John Wick: Chapter 4, is also in the works, and will see the titular character face a new foe as he discovers a way to defeat the High Table.

On March 24, 2023, the film will be released exclusively in theatres. Aside from the two new films, a television series called The Continental is in the works as a prequel to the franchise.

The show will air on Peacock at an unspecified time in the near future. With the franchise continuing to grow, fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

No official release date for Ballerina has been set as the spinoff is still in production.
