Nobody knew about the disease then. Wednesday, NYC’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed. she died of bacterial sepsis.

“Remote physical injuries to her torso” caused sepsis, a spokeswoman explains. The woman lacks a spleen. Accident caused the actress’s death.

Capnocytophaga caused her bacterial sepsis. Capnocytophaga can grow in people’s mouths and dogs’ and cats’ mouths, according to the CDC. Autoimmune disorders and sleeplessness increase risk.

The medical examiner has not released the full results of the model’s autopsy, so it is not clear if an animal bite or lick caused her infections.

Dean’s brother, Alex Jacobs, told Rolling Stone a few days after her death that she died suddenly in New York City on Monday after having “minor” symptoms and asking her boyfriend, Luke Volker, to take her to the emergency room. She died in just a few hours.

“This all happened in less than a day,” Jacobs told Rolling Stone. “She got a headache, went to sleep, woke up her boyfriend, and asked him to take her to the hospital.”

“We still don’t know what happened,” Jacobs added. “The autopsy could take a while. We heard she had a lung virus.

Jacobs told Rolling Stone that Dean’s spleen was removed after a “very, very severe” vehicle accident in 2009. Her brother believes the accident fractured her ribs and back.

Jacobs: “The spleen fights infections, so that could have been a factor.” Without a spleen, she couldn’t fight it off.  Volker shared an Instagram video to grieve his fiancee’s loss and thank supporters.

“Hi! Volker, 26, just wanted to upload a photo of Charlbi. “I see your messages and feel the love. Sincerely. I can’t just now. Thanks. Thanks! Love you”

Ruben Ostlund, who directed Triangle of Sadness, lamented Dean’s passing on Instagram. Before the “tragedy,” he stated it was “an honor to know and work with her.” “Charlbi’s kindness and caring helped her employees and the film team feel better,” he added. It saddens me that she won’t be around. My thoughts are with her friends, family, and fiancé Luke.”
