Christopher McQuarrie, the film’s writer, director, and producer, has just released a brand-new behind-the-scenes photo that transports spectators into the sky.

Fans are eager to see or hear about everything related to Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One as the impending instalment of the well-known Mission: Impossible franchise approaches.

Two planes were seen in the picture, which was posted on McQuarrie’s official Instagram as the sun broke through the clouds.

Along with the image, McQuarrie posted a lengthy comment on Instagram thanking South Africans for their hospitality (the movie was shot on location in Blyde River Canyon) and explicitly mentioning a number of individuals and teams who supported the shooting.

These include the aerial teams that supported the stunts involving the aircraft in the picture. “You did the impossible every day and brought us all home safely. You are truly the stuff of legend.”

Many crew members received further thanks. “As for the best and hardest working crew in the world, we wish you all safe travels home to your loved ones for what we hope will be the very happiest of holidays. We’ll see you all again in the New Year on the other side of the world where a new unknown awaits… Thank you for continuing to make it all possible.”

These Boeing-Stearman biplanes, which will be featured in Dead Reckoning, have been spotted before because the series’ protagonist Tom Cruise has a long history of performing his own extremely risky exploits.

At CinemaCon, Cruise recorded a special PSA for theatre owners where he performed wild acrobatics on one of these aircraft. This daring feat was only one of many he performed; in early September, he also flew one of these biplanes for the movie’s trailer.

The two-parter, Dead Reckoning, which will serve as the series’ seventh and eighth features, continues the long-running action spy movie series with Tom Cruise as its star.

Since the fourth film in the series, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, in 1996, which was also directed by Brian De Palma and was based on the 1966 television series of the same name, the films have witnessed a steady rise in revenue, with each new instalment earning more money than the last.

As writer and director of the two-part series, McQuarrie, who oversaw both the fifth (Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation) and sixth (Mission: Impossible — Fallout) instalments, is back. With Fallout becoming the franchise’s largest commercial hit to date and a staggering gross of over $790 million at the international box office, McQuarrie’s prior work in the franchise has experienced astronomical success.

Cruise will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt, the franchise’s main character, in the two future Mission: Impossible films.

Along with Cruise, other actors from the cast who previously appeared in Mission: Impossible include Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and Frederick Schmidt. Pom Klementieff, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Greg Tarzan Davis, and Cary Elwes are among the new cast members making their debuts in the popular franchise. Mindhunter star Holt McCallany was also cast in the second movie of the duology.
