Henry Cavill will not be coming back as Superman, which is sad news that has DCEU fans in tears. After his well-known cameo in Black Adam with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the 39-year-old actor shared the good news that he would be playing Clark Kent’s secret identity again. But DC Studios is going through a lot of changes now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are in charge. As a result, Superman is going in a new direction… without Henry Cavill.

Henry Cavill put out a statement on Instagram to confirm what several news stories had already said: that he won’t be back as Superman. Henry said this about his meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran: “I just met with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and everyone should be sad. At the end of the day, I won’t be coming back as Superman.”

Warner Bros. Studios asked him to announce Superman’s return in October. Cavill said, “This isn’t the best news, but that’s life.” But looking at James and Peter’s vision in a positive way, the Enola Holmes 2 star also said, “The guard changes is something that happens. I understand. James and Peter need to build a world. I wish them and everyone else involved in the new universe the best of luck and happiness.”

Henry Cavill made sure to comfort his fans, who would be sad about the news, in his last few lines by talking about Superman’s legacy with love: “For those who have been with me through the years, we can cry for a while, but then we have to remember that Superman is still around. Everything he stands for is still true, and the examples he gives us are still there. It’s no longer my turn to wear the cape, but what Superman stands for will never change. It’s been fun going on this journey with you all.”
