James Gunn wants Ben Affleck to be directed in a DC film
James Gunn has confirmed that Ben Affleck, who has expressed interest in directing for DC Studios, could take on the role.
Following the announcement that Henry Cavill will not reprise his role as Superman in the upcoming film, new information about a potential director has emerged.
In response to Gunn’s recent Twitter announcement that a new Superman film is in the works, Gunn has revealed that he is interested in hiring Affleck as director. “Met with Ben yesterday precisely because he wanted to direct and we want him to direct,” Gunn tweeted in response to a fan’s question about whether Affleck, who has starred in several Batman films, including the titular character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), would direct the new film.
Gunn confirmed his interest in Affleck as director, but did not specify whether it would be for the film. “We just have to find the right project,” he added. “We don’t know who is directing yet,” he added.
Although Affleck is best known for his acting, he has also directed a number of movies. The most recent of these is the upcoming movie Air Jordan, which tells the tale of shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro and his struggle to get Michael Jordan to represent Nike. Other examples include Live By Night (2016), Argo (2012), and most recently.
After learning that a new Superman movie is in production, Affleck expressed interest in directing for DC Studios.
The first thing Gunn said this evening was, “Peter and I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year,” “Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life.”
Additionally, it was revealed that a new actor would play the role of Superman in the upcoming movie rather than Cavill reprising his.
“The character will not be played by Henry Cavill,” Gunn confirmed, assuring fans that Henry is still going to be part of DC Studios. “But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”
In response, Cavill announced on his official Instagram account that he would be leaving the role he had previously played in a number of motion pictures.
We can grieve for a while, but after that, we must remember those who stood by my side throughout the years. Superman is still in existence.
The ideals he upholds and the examples he sets for us are still in effect! Cavill wrote that he “respected” the decision of the studio to have him resign. “My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will,” said the superhero.
