James Gunn officially stated this on his Twitter account. There’s a catch, though. Fans of the DC Extended Universe who have been waiting for information on Superman and how he will fit into the new DCU now have some real, official information. A Superman movie is among the DC slate of films that are about to begin production.

According to Gunn, the narrative will concentrate on Superman’s early years. Sadly, Gunn’s confirmation of this indicates that Henry Cavill won’t be playing the character. The two of them “just had a terrific meeting with Henry, and we’re tremendous admirers, and we talked about a variety of intriguing opportunities to work together in the future,” Gunn added of he and Peter Safran.

Fans can certainly appreciate the certainty of the news that the Man of Steel, who is faster than a speeding bullet, can leap tall buildings in a single bound, and is the symbol of hope, will be a part of the future of the DC Universe given all the shakeups and uncertainty going on in the DCU, among them the uncertainty of the characters of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and the entire Justice League.

Gunn mentioned that he is scripting the upcoming Superman movie in a Twitter thread, but he didn’t provide any other information on the narrative, screenplay, or the other characters that would appear alongside Kal-El, also known as Clark Kent to humans. He also affirmed that the movie currently does not have a director attached to it.

There are various directions the film might go in since it will center on a previous period in Superman’s life. The film might concentrate on Kal El’s early years as the figurehead of justice and hope, similar to how The Batman concentrated on Bruce Wayne’s early years as the Caped Crusader. It might also adopt a Superman for All Seasons style, concentrating on him and the supporting cast as he goes about his daily business as Clark Kent and Superman. It will be interesting to watch this fresh big-screen interpretation of the legendary DC character, regardless of the direction the film takes.
