Kate Hudson made her debut in 1996  in the film industry playing a supporting character in an episode of Party of Five’s second season. Her first appearance in a film was in 1998, but the cult classic Almost Famous propelled her to the forefront of the acting world in the year 2000.

Critics praised her performance in this picture. She was quickly able to follow in the footsteps of her renowned parents, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, as she was quickly able to receive multiple prizes for her work. Throughout the 2000s, Hudson established herself as a great dramatic actor in addition to becoming famous for the romantic comedies she starred in throughout the decade.

Hudson became famous for her portrayal as band-aid Penny Lane. In this 1970s film, Patrick Fugit plays William Miller, a writer for Rolling Stone who joins the rock band Stillwater on tour. Frances McDormand’s overprotective mother worries about him while he’s away.

There, he meets Penny Lane and bonds with her and the band. This touching play captures the spirit of its era beautifully. Kate Hudson’s best. Penny is great as guitarist Russell Hammond (Billy Crudup), lead singer Jeff Bebe (Jason Lee), manager Dick Roswell (Noah Taylor), and band-aids Polexia (Anna Paquin) and Sapphire (Fairuza Balk).

This box office bomb is now considered one of the best movies of the 2000s. The theatrical version is fantastic, but the extended edit amplifies the highs and lows of Penny, William, and Russell’s love triangle. Hudson won a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination for her performance.
