House of 1000 Corpses, the film that marked Rob Zombie’s directorial debut and inspired two sequels (The Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell), had a different ending than what was shown on screen.

Thanks to Zombie, you may now see a never-before-seen image from the original intended finale.

Denise Willis, the last girl to survive the slaughter and massacre, is depicted in the photograph (Erin Daniels). She is inside Captain Spaulding’s (Sid Haig) truck, also known as the Museum of Monsters and Madmen truck, which is not shown in the film.

In the original ending, Captain Spaulding was driving his vehicle when his helper, Ravelli (Irwin Keyes), sprang out of the back and grabbed Denise to bring her back in.

Denise is picked up by Captain Spaulding after escaping all the hell she’s been through in the movie’s ending — little does she know that Captain Spaulding is the person who will take her right back into that hell.

The image Zombie posted is most likely the only thing we’ll see from Zombie’s alternate ending. According to IMDb, there is a 105-minute director’s edit of House of 1000 Corpses including original footage, but it has not yet been released.

In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Zombie stated that the footage he deleted from the film to give it a R certificate was lost and has yet to be located.

Fans can hope that it will resurface, but in the meantime, they can view the R-rated version.

House of 1000 Corpses was not only Zombie’s directorial debut, but he also co-wrote and co-scored the film. House of 1000 Corpses, inspired by 1970s horror films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, also stars Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon Zombie, Karen Black, Rainn Wilson, Chris Hardwick, Tom Towles, Jennifer Jostyn, Walton Goggins, and Dennis Fimple in addition to Haig, Daniels, and Keyes.

At its core, the film is about a group of unfortunate kids who are kidnapped and cruelly tortured by a crazy family. House of 1000 Corpses garnered a mixed reaction from reviewers, but it went on to gross $16 million worldwide and become a cult favourite.
