  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be released in 4K Ultra HD.
  • The film’s original cast and crew are featured on commentary tracks.
  • Extras include deleted scenes, outtakes, blooper reels, trailers, and vintage ads.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre‘, directed by Tobe Hooper, will be one of the year’s most anticipated debuts. The legendary horror film is scheduled for physical distribution on February 28, 2023.

The year 2022 was excellent for physical horror media. This year, a tonne of vintage genre movies were released in 4K, and 2023 seems to be no different.

This release, which is available in 4K Ultra HD and a 4K UHD steelbook, has a 4K restoration that has been approved by the filmmaker.

While the steelbook has the same vintage poster artwork, the 4K UHD version comes in a gorgeous slipcover with “final girl” Sally’s bloodshot, Leatherface-filled eye and the original poster art underneath.

Hours of supplementary content are also included on the two CD package, including the first-ever feature-length documentary The Legacy of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The film’s original cast and crew, including Hooper and cinematographer Daniel Pearl, are featured on four commentary tracks on disc one.

On disc two, there are also several featurettes, including “The Cinefamily Presents FRIEDKIN/HOOPER,” which is a discussion between Hooper and The Exorcist director William Friedkin.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth, “Flesh Wounds: Seven Stories of the Saw,” “Off the Hook with Teri McMinn,” and “The Business of Chain Saw: An Interview with Production Manager Ron Bozman” are among the additional featurettes on Disc Two.

Finally, for the long-time Texas Chain Saw enthusiast, there are deleted scenes, outtakes, a blooper reel, trailers, and vintage radio and TV advertisements.

When The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was first released in 1974, it was seen as being quite avant-garde.

Although it is generally regarded as moderate by modern horror standards in terms of blood and gore, Hooper’s atmosphere nonetheless has a distinctively horrifying quality. This nightmare was given a griminess and warped realism by Hooper and Pearl’s spine-chilling cinematography, which is still profoundly upsetting today.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s graphic content led to its suspension in a number of nations, while violence-related concerns caused many American cinemas to discontinue screening it.

One of the finest contributions to the horror genre is The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The creation of franchises like Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street was made possible by Leatherface and his cannibalistic family.

Since its release in 1974, Leatherface has been a horror icon, appearing in innumerable reboots, sequels, and sequels, video games, and comic books.

Although his following sequels may not have ever attained the same level of gore as the original picture, they did become chainsaw experts.

The original film and physical medium should be preserved for this reason. The popularity of the franchise will always be founded in that first movie, even though Leatherface has continued to be relevant in our pop culture zeitgeist thanks to a Netflix Legacy sequel that was released earlier this year and another video game that is in the works.

As a result, it’s wonderful to see a company like Dark Sky Films treat this genre classic with the attention it merits.

On February 28, 2023, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be available in 4K. The 4K steelbook will cost $54.98 and the 4K UHD variant will cost $44.98.
