Chetan Sharma reveal his success a blend of indie and major film

Chetan Sharma, a young actor, attributes his success in the entertainment industry to a successful mix of independent and mainstream films. The actor of Sacred Games 2, Pagglait, and Delhi Crime claims that his wager on independent movies has been profitable.

“My monologue in the 2013 cult classic Ankhon Dekhi was one of the high moments of my career. The project was a modest independent one, and it originally did not do well in theatres. I was able to see movies like Binnu Ka Sapna, Shackle, Chidi Balla, and the upcoming 2020 Delhi thanks to my belief in parallel cinema. The Meenakshi Sundareshwar (2020) and Parched actor recalls, “I played the lead in all of them, and they went quite well in international film festivals (2015)

He credits this mix as his biggest success. “Commercial projects gave me recognition in the masses and independent films established me in the industry. It’s this mix that helped me sail in the industry without a mentor. Makers now know and understand that I am available to experiment with all types of cinema. The thirst of playing the lead I can quench with indie films while commercial projects help me get more projects,” he says.

He has a number of projects coming up after his last appearance in the OTT series Trial by Fire. “I play the lead in the independent movie Who Am I by the up-and-coming director Shireesh Khemariya, I have a significant role in the movie Bholaa, which is directed by Ajay Sir (Devgn), Varun Grover’s short movie Kiss, which is doing very well at international film festivals, and I play the bad guy in Aparna Sen’s movie The Rapist. There are others, but I cannot discuss them,” Sharma continues.

The actor claims that his father’s faith inspired him to pursue acting. “I did well in school, and my father introduced me to theatre and encouraged me to participate in workshops. My interest in it developed into a devotion. Sincerely, I had no idea where I was going, and it took me a long time to realise that he was training me to act, which is what I eventually did,” he adds with pride.
