They announced their intention to resign from their royal duties and relocate to America.

It came after weeks of rumours that they were dissatisfied with palace life, and it has been alleged that a portrait produced to commemorate 2020 was the reason for their decision.

The late Queen released a lovely photograph of herself standing proudly with her son, now King Charles, grandson Prince William, and great-grandson Prince George at the start of that year.

Not only was the photograph taken in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace a treasure for the family album, but it also plainly lay out the destiny of the British Monarchy.

However, author Andrew Morton alleges in his unofficial biography, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, that the portrait caused Harry and Meghan to reconsider their standing in The Firm.

He writes: “The royal couple suspected that the entire institution was conspiring against them. As they saw it, the evidence was all around them.

“The unspoken code was straightforward: the future of the monarchy was assured, with or without Meghan and Harry.”

However, author Andrew Morton alleges in his unofficial biography, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, that the portrait caused Harry and Meghan to reconsider their standing in The Firm.

Saying they had spent “many months” reflecting over the decision, they explained they planned to “carve out a progressive new role within [the] institution” while becoming financially independent.

“The unspoken code was straightforward: the future of the monarchy was assured, with or without Meghan and Harry.”
