Jeri Ryan will join the cast of AMC’s noir western Dark Winds for Season 2 after recently wrapping up Star Trek: Picard’s final season.

Nicholas Logan of Dopesick is also moving west. Later this year, the detective drama series Leaphorn & Chee, based on the late Tony Hillerman’s novels of the same name and set in the 1970s, will return.

The casting, which was first reported by sources, appears to be a sign that Dark Winds will definitely run on AMC, in contrast to a number of previous programmes there that have been cancelled due to budgetary restrictions.

Ryan will play Rosemary Vines, a femme fatale who attacks Jim Chee of the Navajo Nation Police, leaving a trail of bodies in her wake as she pursues power.

Logan will play Colton Wolf, a lethal assassin seeking vengeance on Chee’s colleague Joe Leaphorn. The 1980 Leaphorn & Chee novel People of Darkness introduced both characters; Season 1 was heavily influenced by 1978’s Listening Woman.

Ryan has been in a number of television shows, such as Boston Public, Leverage, and Body of Proof, but she is best recognised for her role as Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager, a human who was saved from the Borg Collective.

She made her series debut in 1997, and by the show’s latter seasons, she had established herself as a major narrative force. She recently played the part again for the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard, and she will do it once more for the third and final season, which will air on Paramount+ next month.

In addition to the movies I Care a Lot and The Best of Enemies, Logan also starred in the Sundance TV show Hap and Leonard.

Next up for him are the Jim Cummings thriller The Last Stop in Yuma County, the Western horror movie Organ Trail, and the Orlando Bloom actioner Red Right Hand.

Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon play Leaphorn and Chee, respectively, in the television series Dark Winds. Other actors who appear in the show include Jessica Matten, Deanna Allison, Rainn Wilson, Elva Guerra, Jeremiah Bitsui, Eugene Brave Rock, and Noah Emmerich.

Graham Roland is the show’s creator, and McClarnon, George R.R. Martin, Robert Redford, Tina Elmo, Chris Eyre, and Vince Gerardis are its executive producers. For Season 2, John Wirth will take over as showrunner.
