Rick Astley suing Yung Gravy over alleged voice-stealing
According to rumours, Rick Astley is suing Yung Gravy for the song “Betty (Get Money)” by the up-and-coming rapper.
Astley, 56, alleges that 26-year-old Gravy (full name: Matthew Raymond Hauri) used an imitation of his voice to steal the vocals from his most well-known song, which was published in 1987.
Astley reportedly alleges that Gravy and his producers “conspired to include a deliberate and practically indistinguishable copy of… Astley’s voice throughout the song,” which was released in June 2022. Astley is also suing vocal mimic, Nick Seeley.
It’s unclear whether Dwilly and EDM A-lister Dillon Francis have been named as defendants, despite the fact that they are credited as producers on “Betty (Get Money).”
The English singer-songwriter alleges that despite Gravy’s licensing of the song’s instrumental portion, he did not authorize the rapper or any other member of his crew to utilize or mimic his voice.
According to reports, Astley’s lawsuit contends that Gravy acknowledged playing dangerously when he attempted to impersonate an ’80s performer in an interview from August 2022.
The SoundCloud phenomenon who frequently recreates original samples said, “My guy Nick, who does a lot of sample replays and recreating, we basically rebuilt the whole song.”
Had a new singer and other instruments, but everything was close together because it was simpler legally. Astley is suing Gravy for millions of dollars, claiming that experience has destroyed all of his chances to work with other musicians in the future.
