Sarwat Gilani, a renowned type-casting culture-buster, is one of the many talented actors. She extended her horizons and opted for strong-willed female characters in Churails and Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam. While the 40-year-old is cautious about what she represents, she is also conscious of who she collaborates with and how she distinguishes between art and the artist.

The Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 diva talked about her transition from portraying weak characters to powerful protagonists in an interview with JORE. The Joyland star bemoaned how preconceptions and misogyny impacted the field and the calibre of work created. Gilani also discussed the influence personal issues have on an actor’s career.

We need to talk about principles and self-respect, Gilani said when addressing drama serials that encourage women to fall in love with stalkers or harassers. We must educate. Someone who beats his wife or pursues girls is not a guy. Men will continue to be how they are as long as we don’t demonstrate what a guy should be.

The Yeh Ishq Hai actor expressed his opinion on how public figures accused of harassment, whether in Hollywood or Lollywood, affect the environment on the sets: “Even if a certain person is a great artist but he’s a child molester, or he’s beaten up his wife but he’s a great actor, you should not work with them by principle. When the #MeToo movement first emerged in Hollywood, a large number of female A-listers had been silent about the harassing filmmakers. However, people spoke up when they could, and this entire movement came as a result. the dynamics for women in the entertainment industry while working on Churails. “Even before Churails, I was constantly promoting women’s rights on many forums,” she claimed. Because I’m urging women to speak up on one end and acting like a woman who can do nothing for herself on the other, I felt like I would no longer be able to defend a persona this meek and weak. That is a massive paradox.

Gilani explained how an actor’s career does not serve as the necessary attestation to be referred to as a good human being. She said, “Art is about expression; it’s not about keeping people quiet. So, it should be obvious what to do if someone is a wonderful artist but a bad person.

The Pujaran actress lamented how women in Pakistani society are pressured into covering up domestic violence, saying, “All these women who are deceived, abused, and tormented by males, actually embrace that story, they want to cover up the truth. Because “izzat ki baat hai,” a wife is not permitted to discuss her husband’s extramarital activities in public. So, while it is entirely acceptable for men to cheat, it is insulting for women to discuss it? You’ve been teaching us all our lives that lying and cheating are wrong, and now you’re telling us that beta is alright to let go of. No! You’re so perplexed.

The Dil E Muztar actress stated, “Girls have raised their standards in Pakistan; they are more career-oriented, multitaskers, and wise; even as housewives, they take care of so many things on their own; there are so many accomplished women who have battled so much. not just personally, but also professionally. And talking about that is not permitted. A lovely medium, art allows you to express the most repulsive topics in their purest form. like in Mataye Jaan’s Hania. Why aren’t we discussing information that is more realistic, useful, and elevating for Pakistani women?
