Focusing on “certain moments [she] adored” at the BAFTA Awards, Ariana DeBose appears to be referring to her popular rap.

The 32-year-old “West Side Story” star posted a nine-slide carousel of behind-the-scenes images from the event on Instagram, including one of her singing into a microphone.

In her divisive cover of Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family” and the Eurythmics’ “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” the actress captioned photos of herself with Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kathryn Gallagher, Eddie Redmayne, Regé-Jean Page, Paapa Essiedu, and HoYeon Jung with the caption, “@bafta Some moments I loved with ppl

The Academy Award winner rapped, “Angela Bassett did stuff,” at one point during the performance. My “Lady King,” Viola Davis Blanchett You are a genius, Cate. Jamie Lee, you represent us all.

A Twitter user joked, “Ariana DeBose has apparently turned down a performance at King Charles III’s coronation,” drawing immediate attention to the “simultaneously dreadful and fantastic” song on social media.

But as one dissenter commented, “This whole performance hurts more when you consider that Ariana Debose has more Oscars than Angela Bassett,” several attacked DeBose for minimizing the celebrated Bassett, 64, to someone who merely “did the thing.”

In response to the negative feedback, DeBose closed her Twitter account and added the inspirational message, “Babygirl [sic], in a world full of choices, choose yourself,” to her Instagram Story.

She had support from BAFTAs showrunner Nick Bullen, who told that viewers “clapped” and “danced to the music” and appreciated the “very known songs.”

“It’s been a tremendous year for women in film,” he remarked, “and we wanted to commemorate that. That rap section in the middle, mentioning the women in the room.”
