Tom Sizemore, an American actor best known for his parts in “Saving Private Ryan” and “Black Hawk Down,” is in serious condition after experiencing a brain aneurysm early on Saturday morning. He is being treated at a hospital in Los Angeles, according to his manager.

“He is currently in critical condition and it’s a wait and see situation,” the 61-year-old actor’s manager, Charles Lago, wrote in an email.

Sizemore has had a lengthy career in film and television. He is best known for his appearances as the battle-tested sergeant on Tom Hanks’ side in “Saving Private Ryan” in 1998 and as the Army Ranger battalion commander in “Black Hawk Down” in 2001. For his performance in “Witness Protection,” he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 2000 for best actor in a miniseries or television film.

Sizemore has had numerous run-ins with the law and has battled drug addiction for almost as long as his professional career. Following his conviction for attacking his ex-girlfriend and admission to rehab for methamphetamine and heroin usage, “Shooting Sizemore,” a documentary series from 2007, followed his struggles to regain his life and profession.

The actor has recently been detained on many occasions for drug use and driving while intoxicated.
