Hema Malini discusses women’s careers after marriage
In response to a query on women’s careers after marriage, Hema Malini provided her response. The seasoned actress and politician was questioned about changes that have occurred as a result of women working after marriage today versus in the past during a press conference. In order to illustrate how women are continuing with their jobs after getting married, the reporter who posed the question mentioned the instances of actors Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt.
Responding to the query, Hema claimed that she never stopped working and ‘kept working non-stop’ after marriage. She also jokingly suggested that maybe people did indeed follow her. Hema further stated that the wife must make concessions.
Hema remarked, “I won’t respond much to this because I never stopped working; I got married and kept working nonstop. So perhaps I’m being followed by those who saw me. It’s wonderful that the husband should recognize that the woman he married is a really gifted individual who people like seeing.”
She said, “But the woman has to sacrifice a little, being a wife. She cannot promptly produce a child, then you know there is a pause. Hence, why not if you are that age and willing to work. If the producers are willing to sign you for such a sizable sum, that’s fantastic.”
In 1980, Hema and actor Dharmendra got married. Esha Deol and Ahana Deol are their two daughters. While Dharmendra had yet to make his Bollywood debut in 1953, he married Prakash Kaur, his first wife. Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta, and Ajeita are Dharmendra’s children from his first marriage, along with two sons and two girls.
Raja Jani and Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Sholay (1975), Dream Girl and Kinara (1977), The Burning Train, and Alibaba Aur 40 Chor (1980), among many others, had Dharmendra and Hema as co-stars. In 1963, Hema made her acting debut in the Tamil movie Idhu Sathiyam. She debuted in Sapno Ka Saudagar as the star (1968).
In the years that followed, Hema appeared in a large number of Hindi movies, including Tum Haseen Main Jawaan (1970), Jaaneman (1976), Bandish and Do Aur Do Paanch (1980), Satte Pe Satta (1982), and Apne Apne (1987), among others. Hema last appeared in the 2020 film Shimla Mirchi with Rajkummar Rao and Rakul Preet Singh.
