To support the LGBTQ community and its allies in the face of Tennessee legislation that is perceived as targeting the rights of gay and trans people generally and drag performers specifically, Nashville-based musicians are uniting in a big way tonight for “Love Rising,” a benefit concert that will draw crowds the size of Bridgestone Arena.

The $14.99 tickets for the 8:30 ET/5:30 PT concert, which starts at 7:30 Nashville time, are available here. The lavishly star-studded programme is also being livestreamed abroad via the Veeps platform.

Hayley Williams of Paramore, Sheryl Crow, Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne, Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires, Yola, Brittany Howard, Hozier, Adeem the Artist, Julien Baker, Joy Oladokun, Jake Wesley Rogers, and Mya Byrne are among the many artists on the diverse lineup, which also features co-organizer Allison Russell.

Together with the nationally recognised performers, the concert has recently been expanded to include more Tennessee-based non-binary and drag performers.

On the eve of the event, Allison Russell and radio host Hunter Kelly, who were instrumental in conceptualising and putting together the Bridgestone benefit, spoke with Variety about how the concert came to be and what they hoped to achieve with it in a state where LGBTQ people feel threatened by their own state government despite Nashville being a mecca in the South for those communities.

Before and after winning the album of the year award from the Americana Music Association, the multi-Grammy nominated Russell, who has recently established herself as a marquee artist, emphasised the strength of the legislation she helped draught in opposition to those bills emerging from the state legislature. These are the artists who genuinely cared so deeply about our wider LGBTQ+ community and the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in America that they sacrificed time from their hectic schedules to join us for this joyful assembly and resistance.
