The Princess of Wales‘ attire for Monday’s Commonwealth Day service could be a subtle dig at sister-in-law Meghan Markle, as one designer is said to have caused “tensions” between the two.
Kate dressed up in a trendy floral jacket and matching skirt from one of her favourite designers, Erdem Moralioglu.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Meghan and Kate both admired Erdem’s designs.
The Telegraph previously reported that Erdem prioritized Kate over Meghan, despite Meghan falling in love with his clothing during her acting career.
Despite wearing the London-based designer’s clothes before entering royal life, Kate was said to be given priority over her sister-in-law.
It reportedly didn’t go down well with the Sussexes after Kate was handed the latest designs, with Meghan said to have fumed that Kate “wasn’t even Queen”.
Meghan didn’t wear the designer publicly until March 2019, nearly a year after she officially joined the Royal Family.
For the royal engagement, the former actress wore a custom-made green coat dress.
In early 2016, the Duchess of Sussex wore a dress from his 2015 collection before meeting Harry.
Kate has long been a fan of Erdem, wearing a mid-calf-fit-and-flare design from the SS18 collection in 2018.
Erdem’s designs have been criticised for their fearless approach to patterns.
His designs have been described as “chintzy” by some.
At Monday’s service, the Princess of Wales and Prince William appeared to be in good spirits.
Kate accessorized her stylish navy ensemble with sapphire and diamond earrings previously owned by William’s late mother, Princess Diana. The 41-year-old also wore an elegant brooch that the King had given her.
Despite the fact that their two eldest children occasionally accompany them to royal events, the Prince and Princess of Wales stepped out without their children.
Other royals in attendance on Monday included the newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, as well as Princess Anne.
